What Your Appointment Will Be Like
What Happens During an Appointment
Appointments follow a clear and supportive structure.
We begin with a case history, where you’ll have the opportunity to explain what’s been going on and ask any questions. From there, we carry out an appropriate examination, including any relevant movement or physical tests.
Where suitable, this will be followed by treatment during the same session.
Throughout the appointment, you are encouraged to ask questions. The aim is that by the end of your session, you leave with a clear understanding of:
-
what is happening in your body
-
what may have contributed to this
-
what the next steps may be
Will I Need to Undress?
Sometimes it is necessary to access certain areas of the body more clearly, but we always aim to remove as little clothing as possible.
In most cases, we can simply move or adjust clothing to allow appropriate assessment or treatment. Any request to remove clothing will be explained clearly and is always your choice.
Consent is ongoing and can be withdrawn at any point.
How Hands-On Is Treatment?
Treatment can involve a range of hands-on approaches, which may include:
-
soft tissue and massage techniques
-
gentle joint movements
-
acupuncture (where appropriate)
-
breath-focused or relaxation-based techniques
While treatment is hands-on, the guiding principle is that your body remains an active participant. Nothing is forced. We work with your body, encouraging it to release and adapt at its own pace.
Will I Be Given Exercises or Advice?
Sometimes yes — and sometimes no.
This depends entirely on your situation, what your body needs at that point, and how it is responding. In some cases, exercises or advice may be helpful early on. In others, it may be more appropriate to introduce these gradually or later.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Care is always adapted to you as an individual.
